What is Scarcematter?

Scarcematter are designs you can truly own. What does that mean? Simply put, we create products from our designs but we also sell the underlying art. Once an artwork wins a bid, we remove products with that artwork’s design from our storefronts and grant you IP Rights.

Buy a shirt and rep the design, or buy the art if you feel so inclined.

How does it work?

  • Scarcematter designs are linked to to an underlying art piece via an NFT (currently sold on Opensea; an NFT marketplace -- we'll cover NFTs in the section below).
  • If you prefer to buy the merchandise you can shop via our storefront. If you would like to purchase the rights to one of our designs, you will need to place a successful bid on the corresponding artwork via Opensea.
  • Once a winning bid is accepted, the winning bidder will receive the NFT (learn more about how to buy NFT here) which will give them ownership of the corresponding artwork along with IP Rights
  • Additionally, once a winning bidder is determined, we will instantly remove any products from our storefront, never to be sold by our storefronts ever again. We only hold very limited quantities of each product (inventory count for each product is visible on its respective product page) making our products mostly print-to-order so you never have to worry about lingering back-stock merchandise.

What are NFTs?

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or NFTs are digital assets that can represent real-world objects like art, music, in-game items, and much more.

Why NFTs?

NFTs allow for easy transferability of ownership. In our case, when you purchase the NFT corresponding to one of our designs, your wallet will be the new owner of the underlying Scarcematter artwork, granting you IP rights to the corresponding art piece. All corresponding products are immediately removed from our storefronts.

What IP rights do I get after purchasing the underlying art?

See here for full details on IP Rights.

Can I use crypto to pay for my merchandise?

Yes, you can use Solana Pay (pay with USDC, Tether, or Solana) on the Solana network to purchase any gear (more crypto payment rails are in the works). When ordering gear, just proceed to checkout and fill out your details. Once done, you will see an option to pay with USDC via the Solana network. You will need Ethereum on the Base network to purchase an art piece from our collection on Opensea

If I purchase a product, will I also own the right to the art?

No, to purchase the rights to the art, you will need to purchase the art via Opensea. Just follow the link at the bottom of the description on any product page and purchase or place your bid. Once purchased, you will immediately own IP rights to your newly purchased artwork.

If I purchase the NFT corresponding to one of our artworks, will Scarcematter continue to sell merchandise with the purchased art?

No, once a winning bidder is determined, we will instantly remove any products from our storefront, never to be sold by Scarcematter ever again. We only hold very limited quantities of each product (inventory count for each product is visible on its respective product page) making our products mostly print-to-order so you never have to worry about lingering back-stock merchandise.

Do I need a crypto wallet to buy art?

Yes, you will need to install a Metamask wallet or a similar crypto wallet (eg. Phantom, Talisman) to purchase our artwork. Learn more about how to buy NFT here.

Where does Scarcematter get its art?

All art is made and owned by Scarcematter unless explicitly mentioned on the listing or product page. Occasionally, Scarcematter will partner and collaborate with other artists at which point we will state the collaboration and the creator of the original artwork on its respective product page.

Where are the NFTs minted?

Our artwork collection was minted on Base (a layer 2 on Ethereum). We envision our NFTs to be interoperable with other blockchains in the future.

What if I want to sell my NFT?

You can sell your NFT at any point. Your NFT serves as proof that you own the art and the IP rights corresponding to your newly acquired Scarcematter art piece. Note: If you sell the NFT of the art you purchased from us, you will sell your rights to that artwork and IP to the new buyer (see IP rights for more details).
