About
What is Scarcematter?
Scarcematter offers designs you can truly own. Here's how it works: When you buy our products, you can also purchase the underlying artwork. Once sold, we remove that design from our storefronts, and you gain full IP rights. As the name implies, Scarcematter releases gear in limited quantities, so grab yours before it’s gone for good.
Buy some gear and rep a design, or purchase the art if you feel so inclined.
All art will be created in-house in the first phase of our rollout. As we move into phase 2, we'll onboard artists from around the world. Stay tuned for upcoming collaborations and exclusive drops.
How does it work?
- Scarcematter designs are linked to to an underlying art piece via an NFT (currently sold on Opensea; an NFT marketplace -- we'll cover NFTs in the section below).
- If you prefer to buy the merchandise you can shop via our storefront. If you would like to purchase the rights to one of our designs, you will need to place a successful bid on the corresponding artwork via Opensea.
- Once a winning bid is accepted, the winning bidder will receive the NFT (learn more about how to buy NFT here) which will give them ownership of the corresponding artwork along with IP Rights.
- Additionally, once a winning bidder is determined, we will instantly remove any products from our storefront, never to be sold by our storefronts ever again. We only hold very limited quantities of each product (inventory count for each product is visible on its respective product page) making our products mostly print-to-order so you never have to worry about lingering back-stock merchandise.
What are NFTs?
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or NFTs are digital assets that can represent real-world objects like art, music, in-game items, and much more.
Why NFTs?
NFTs allow for easy transferability of ownership. In our case, when you purchase the NFT corresponding to one of our designs, your wallet will be the new owner of the underlying Scarcematter artwork, granting you IP rights to the corresponding art piece. All corresponding products are immediately removed from our storefronts.
What IP rights do I get after purchasing the underlying art?
